The Prime Minister *may*, and we can only say ‘may’, have broken the law around coronavirus regulations. This is potentially huge, precisely because the Prime Minister benefitted so much from using a rule breach to get rid of Boris Johnson.
Now, it is true to say, as the Met Police have said, that section 64A of the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984, puts a long stop date on acts that broke the law. And it is true to say that’s more than 3 years since the PM met with the Voice Coach.
But is that the end of the matter? Well, no, I don’t think it is. I still think the public care about the substance of what has been going on. To quote Angela Rayner, the public hate ‘one law for them, and one law for us’.
So can anything be done? I think yes.
