Hello - I’m Steven Barrett - Barrister, Broadcaster and Writer
This substack is going to be my main focus going forward. It’s where I put all of my content and the best way to stay in touch with me. I’m looking to build a community of people committed to thinking, questioning and learning.

My Mission
Until now, I’ve stuck solely to explaining law and the constitution to the public. But in the years I have been active, the world has been getting darker.
I think that now is the time for good people - of all political parties (and none) to come together and make a stand. That’s what I intend to do here - amplifying our voice and campaigning for common sense.
I’ll use my legal and political analysis to give you my take, on the leading stories of the day.
Never miss an update—every new post is sent directly to your email inbox. For a spam-free, ad-free reading experience, plus audio and community features, get the Substack app.
Become a Founding or Paid Supporter
I’d like for this to succeed so to help me devote as much time as possible to it, most content is going to be for paid subscribers. Please consider signing up.
I’d also like a very select few to become Founding Members - individuals I will regularly name and personally thank
There are going to be events and I’ll be teaming up with all my friends from media and politics at some point - special thank you to Mahyar Tousi who persuaded me to do this:
About Me
I’m never elitist. My view is that if I can’t make you understand a point, then that’s my fault. I try to explain things in a common sense and practical way.
I am a Barrister, called to the Bar in 2003 and I’ve practiced in cases worth tens of millions of pounds. I’ve appeared in trials at the High Court, been to the Court of Appeal and I hold an extra qualification in what’s called International Arbitration - and I’ve worked on cases internationally.
I studied law at Oxford and I taught law at Cambridge. I’ve advised Government Ministers, Shadow Ministers and been in to the House of Commons to advise the MPs. I am an expert on our Constitution and I’m extremely proud of those times, like on how International Law works in the UK, where I have published and the Supreme Court has then confirmed I am right later on.
